Feds investigating Stacey Abrams-linked group’s ‘insane’ $2B EPA grant, Zeldin says

Federal authorities are examining a $2 billion environmental grant connected to Stacey Abrams, a two-time Democratic candidate for governor of Georgia. EPA administrator Lee Zeldin announced that the grant has been canceled and funds are currently frozen.

• Lee Zeldin, the EPA administrator, stated that he has terminated the grant awarded to a Stacey Abrams-related group.

• The U. S. Department of Justice (DOJ) and the FBI are investigating this grant, which was said to be excessive given that the group previously received only $100.

• Abrams’ group, Power Forward Communities, received the $2 billion grant in 2024 from a fund within President Joe Biden's Inflation Reduction Act aimed at promoting green energy.

• The sizable grant was part of a $369 billion package for green initiatives and was awarded to several organizations, including Habitat for Humanity and United Way.

• Former President Trump criticized the grant, questioning the sudden increase in funding for the organization linked to Abrams and calling for the money to be returned.

• The $2 billion has not yet been dispensed, as Citibank is holding the funds based on instructions from the EPA and the Treasury Department. The situation is anticipated to be resolved in court.

• Abrams had been involved with Rewiring America, one of the organizations in the Power Forward Communities coalition, but has stated she left the group before the funds were allocated.

The investigation into the $2 billion grant linked to Stacey Abrams has raised concerns about the distribution of taxpayer money in environmental projects, particularly the rapid increase in funding for a previously underfunded organization. The outcome of this investigation and its potential legal implications remain to be seen.
