New Planned Parenthood Report Has a Disturbing Takeaway

A recent report from Planned Parenthood reveals troubling statistics regarding abortions in the United States, particularly after the Dobbs decision. The findings indicate an increase in abortions, alongside a decline in other health services.

• Abortion Statistics: In 2024, Planned Parenthood reported performing 434,450 abortions while treating 2.09 million patients. The number of abortions marks an 8% increase from the previous year.

• Decline in Preventive Services: Concurrently, cancer screenings, pap smears, and preventative care visits have decreased by significant margins—8.6%, 2.5%, and 3.2% respectively. Only 2,852 instances of miscarriage care and 7,685 prenatal services were reported.

• Impact of Legislation: The One Big Beautiful Bill Act has defunded Planned Parenthood, leading to the closure of 50 clinics and putting an additional 200 at risk. President Trump's budget proposal seeks to maintain this defunding.

• Abortion Access: Despite attempts to limit abortions through state laws, women continue to seek services out of state and online. Planned Parenthood reported spending $3.7 million to assist women with travel expenses for abortions.

• Increasing Abortion Rates: Data from the Guttmacher Institute supports Planned Parenthood's findings, showing a 21% increase in abortions since 2020. The figures do not account for illegal abortions, making the true number potentially higher.

• Federal Support: Government grants received by Planned Parenthood increased to $832 million in fiscal year 2025, a 5% rise from the previous year, indicating ongoing support for their operations despite defunding efforts.

The report highlights that despite a reversal of Roe v. Wade and federal defunding efforts, abortions have increased in the U. S. Strategies targeting illegal drug trafficking and telehealth would be more effective in reducing abortion numbers than simply closing clinics.
