As Musk Departs, White House and Congress Unveil Plans to Codify DOGE Cuts

Elon Musk is leaving his position as head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), appointed by President Trump. The Trump administration is now quickly working to confirm spending cuts that DOGE has recommended.

• Musk's role as a "special government employee" lasted 130 days and concludes this Friday, although he will continue advising Trump unofficially.

• Musk thanked Trump for the opportunity to reduce wasteful spending and expressed confidence in DOGE's ongoing mission.

• The administration plans to introduce a "rescissions package" to Congress, seeking to make $9.4 billion in cuts to current expenditures, which will be considered by Congress within 45 days.

• Significant cuts include $1.1 billion from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, affecting organizations like NPR and PBS, and $8.3 billion from foreign aid impacting USAID.

• OMB Director Russ Vought stated the desire for Congress to approve the first rescissions bill, with Speaker Mike Johnson supporting its passage in the House.

• DOGE has identified $175 billion in wasteful spending, equating to over $1,000 per taxpayer.

With Musk’s exit, attention now shifts to Congress, which must act to prevent the return of government waste identified by DOGE. The mission to eliminate waste continues.
