Trump’s Ratings Edge Higher As Good News Eclipses Negative Media Coverage

The latest I&I/TIPP Poll reveals the current standings of President Donald Trump's approval ratings and public perception. Compared to his predecessor, Joe Biden, Trump's ratings show a significant improvement, though there is still room for growth among certain voter groups.

• Trump's favorability rating sits at 45% favorable and 45% unfavorable, making his net approval score even. In contrast, Biden had only 38% favorable ratings before he left office.

• The poll, conducted from May 28-30, also shows strong political divides:

• Republicans are highly supportive with 80% favorable.

• Democrats show great disapproval (74% unfavorable), and independents stand at 51% unfavorable.

• Overall approval for Trump's job performance is at 43%, with 45% disapproving. Again, deep divides exist:

• Republican approval is at 77%, while Democrats only at 17%.

• Men generally approve (52%), while women largely disapprove (51%).

• Approval also varies by race; white voters approve more (50%) compared to Hispanic (29%) and black voters (26%).

• When asked about Trump's leadership, 44% deem it "strong," whereas 37% consider it "weak. " Men are more likely to perceive strong leadership (51% compared to 37% of women).

• The TIPP Presidential Leadership Index is at 50.2, indicating a slight overall optimism, particularly among Republicans (83.8) compared to Democrats (21.8).

• Americans graded Trump's performance at 41%, with Republicans showing a strong preference (74% giving him high grades). This approval covers various areas, from immigration policy to healthcare handling, with specific grades ranging from 46% for immigration management to 34% for healthcare issues.

• Despite criticism and a negative media coverage (92% negative during Trump’s first 100 days), the recent economic news shows promise, with inflation dropping to a four-year low and personal incomes increasing.

President Trump’s approval ratings show a more favorable stance compared to Biden's final months, yet substantial divide exists among party lines. While most Republicans are supportive, there remains significant disapproval from Democrats and independents. Areas for improvement are noted, especially with minority and female voters. Economic indicators provide a backdrop of optimism, though potential risks to his ratings loom on the geopolitical horizon.
