EPA Internal Watchdog Peeks Under The Hood Of $7 Billion Biden Solar Program

The Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Office of the Inspector General (OIG) is starting an audit on the $7 billion Solar For All program initiated during the Biden administration.

• The Solar For All program is part of the $27 billion Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund (GGRF) from the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), aimed at funding solar panel deployment in low-income areas.

• The audit will examine the status of funds, identify the top recipients, and assess potential risks associated with the program.

• States like New Hampshire, Vermont, and Maine, which received significant funding despite being among the least sunny in the U. S. , are highlighted.

• Noteworthy recipients include Texas Southern University’s Bullard Center for Environmental and Climate Justice, which received $156 million.

• The Trump administration is pursuing this audit amid legal efforts to halt other GGRF programs, alleging misuse of funds.

The OIG’s audit aims to provide clarity on the effectiveness and distribution of funds within the Solar For All program.
