Biden-Era Grant Doles Out Tax Dollars To Train Trans Activists, Support Jobless Queer ‘Rabble-Rouser’

The Biden administration has allocated nearly $160,000 to the University of Cincinnati for a new program aimed at training students in health fields to focus on transgender and gender expansive (TGGE) health. This funding will be utilized for various activities related to TGGE health, including travel, community engagement, and educational resources.

• The grant, awarded in June 2024, will support the Healthcare Interprofessional Gender Health, Education and Research (HIGHER) Academy, which aims to address health disparities faced by TGGE individuals who are often overlooked in research.

• The program will start in spring 2025 and will enroll fifteen graduate-level students in three specialization tracks: medical/surgical interventions, structural/social interventions, and psychological/behavioral interventions.

• The budget includes allocations of $20,106 for consultant services, $40,000 for honorariums, $31,500 for student stipends, and $14,000 for food for an annual symposium.

• Jonah Yokoyama, a consultant and gender-affirming care specialist from Equitas Health, will receive $38. 66 per hour for his work on the program.

• The program will reward community members for participation in meetings and will provide each student with a $700 stipend.

• Additionally, funds are earmarked for creating promotional materials like pronoun pins and lanyards, as well as travel to international transgender health conferences (WPATH), with a total of $7,500 allocated for these trips.

• It will actively recruit from underrepresented groups in healthcare as part of its diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) strategy.

• The University of Cincinnati is also reviewing its DEI programs following legal concerns but continues many existing initiatives.

The HIGHER Academy seeks to enhance education and research in TGGE health through community involvement and targeted training. Despite ongoing scrutiny of DEI-related programs, the initiative aims to promote a more inclusive approach to healthcare for TGGE individuals.
