2 GOP congressmen slap articles of impeachment on federal judges for being 'partisan activists'

Two Republican congressmen have initiated impeachment proceedings against federal judges, claiming they are acting as "partisan activists. " This action follows disagreements over judicial rulings related to President Trump’s policies.

• Rep. Andy Ogles from Tennessee filed articles of impeachment against U. S. District Judge Theodore Chuang of Maryland. Chuang previously ruled that Trump's cuts to the U. S. Agency for International Development were likely unconstitutional.

• Ogles criticized Chuang for his background, linking him to the Obama administration and accusing him of promoting critical race theory.

• Rep. Andrew Clyde from Georgia also filed impeachment articles against U. S. District Judge John J. McConnell Jr. from Rhode Island, alleging abuse of power and conflicts of interest.

• Judge McConnell had blocked Trump’s freeze on federally appropriated funds, claiming it infringed upon congressional powers.

• These new impeachment initiatives follow a previous effort by Rep. Brandon Gill of Texas against Judge James Boasberg, who ruled against deportation flights for foreign prison gang members.

• Chief Justice John Roberts publicly criticized the impeachment efforts, stating that disagreements with judicial decisions should be handled through the normal appellate process.

• House Speaker Mike Johnson appears uninterested in advancing the impeachment articles, which would add to the historical context, as only 15 federal judges have been impeached in U. S. history.

The introduction of impeachment articles by two GOP congressmen against federal judges highlights ongoing tensions between the legislative and judicial branches, particularly surrounding Trump's policies. With Chief Justice Roberts' remark emphasizing traditional legal processes, the future of these impeachment attempts remains uncertain as leadership shows a lack of interest in pursuing them.
