DOJ Opens Investigation into Chuck Schumer For Threatening Supreme Court Justices

The Department of Justice (DOJ) is investigating Chuck Schumer for allegedly threatening Supreme Court justices. This inquiry is led by interim D. C. U. S. attorney Edward R. Martin, Jr. , who is reviewing comments made by Democratic leaders and former Justice Department officials. Schumer's statements were made during a 2020 pro-abortion rally, where he warned justices Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh that they would "pay the price" for their future decision regarding Roe v. Wade, which they invalidated later.

During the rally, Schumer declared, "I want to tell you, Gorsuch. I want to tell you, Kavanaugh. You have released the whirlwind, and you will pay the price. ” He further stated, “You won’t know what hit you if you go forward with these awful decisions. ” In a letter dated January 21st, Martin emphasized the seriousness of threats against public officials and expressed the hope for Schumer’s cooperation.

Despite being criticized publicly by Chief Justice John Roberts, Schumer did not apologize for his remarks. Roberts remarked that while justices expect criticism, threats from high-ranking government officials are inappropriate and dangerous. Schumer later admitted, "I should not have used the words I used yesterday," but insisted that he did not intend to make a threat, explaining that being from Brooklyn prompts them to speak strongly.

In another context, Schumer recently claimed that Kamala Harris lost the presidential election because people were unaware of the positive actions the Democrats and the Biden administration had taken. He stated that while they accomplished many good things, their focus was too much on the details rather than showing empathy for working families who didn’t realize their efforts. This was mentioned during an interview with NBC, where he reflected on the 2024 election results.
