CBS Has to Turn Over '60 Minutes' Kamala Interview to FCC, Then It Gets Worse for Them

The controversy regarding the CBS "60 Minutes" interview with Kamala Harris before the 2024 election arose when the interview was edited to make her responses appear clearer, despite losing much of their original meaning. Once the edits were exposed, CBS faced significant backlash, with calls from former CBS journalist Catherine Herridge for the release of the full transcript and unedited footage. The network declined these requests, which damaged its credibility as a news organization.

CBS staff members were reportedly upset that parent company Paramount might settle Donald Trump's $10 billion lawsuit related to this matter. While CBS News president Wendy McMahon and "60 Minutes" executive producer Bill Owens oppose settling to maintain press freedom, reports suggest Paramount chairwoman Shari Redstone is considering a settlement to secure Trump’s approval for a merger with Skydance, alongside concerns about bias at CBS.

Meanwhile, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has demanded the full transcript and footage from the interview. CBS stated it will comply with this request, ensuring the material will eventually be made public. This situation adds to a series of recent legal developments favoring Trump, including a $25 million settlement from Meta.
