In particular, a new study found the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine increases the risk of blood clots.
In Olmstead County, the researchers found 46 CVST cases were reported to the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System within 92 days of receiving the vaccine.
Overall, the researchers said their study found the CVST incidence rate within 15 days of receiving the J&J vaccine was "Significantly higher than the prepandemic rate."
While correlation does not necessarily equal causation, it certainly appears that the J&J vaccine may increase the risk of blood clots.
"[T]he higher rate of this rare adverse effect must be considered in the context of the effectiveness of the vaccine in preventing COVID-19," the researchers said in the discussion portion of the study.
President Joe Biden may feel the risk of severe COVID-19 in an unvaccinated person is much higher than the risk of vaccine side effects, and he may be correct in that assumption.
It must be noted that VAERS reports can be filed by anyone and are unverified by the CDC. Thus, as the agency notes, "Reports of adverse events to VAERS following vaccination, including deaths, do not necessarily mean that a vaccine caused a health problem."
