With Obama's Help, UAW Tries To Force VW Workers To Unionize

Labor: A year ago, the United Auto Workers launched a high-profile campaign to unionize a Tennessee Volkswagen plant. But a majority of the workers said no. The UAW lost fair and square, but it won't take no for an answer.
Many of the workers who voted down the union told local media they were worried that the union presence would mean lost jobs. They feared the UAW would turn Chattanooga, Tenn., into the next Detroit.
Last summer, however, union bosses started agitating for another election. In other words, keep voting until you win.
Once it became clear the union would lose a revote, they scuttled another embarrassing setback at the ballot box and looked for other alternatives.
Next, they wanted a system under which the UAW would simply have to persuade a majority of workers to sign a card to certify the union — the "we don't need no stinking elections" option.
