Federal lawmakers seek Cover Oregon investigation

Four federal lawmakers — including Oregon Rep. Greg Walden — are asking for a federal investigation into how Cover Oregon spent $304 million building the state’s health care exchange.
“Although the roll out of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act has been problematic nationwide, no state has had more complication than Oregon,” according to a letter lawmakers sent to the General Accounting Office. “The catastrophic breakdown of Cover Oregon is unacceptable and taxpayers deserve accountability.”
Walden announced the news at a press conference Thursday morning in Medford with state Rep. Dennis Richardson, R-Central Point. Richardson hosted a second press conference at the Capitol in the afternoon.
Cover Oregon launched Oct. 1 without a fully functioning website. Oregonians who wanted insurance have had to apply using 19-page paper applications, and it's unclear whether the website will work as intended before open enrollment closes March 31.
