The High Court has opened Pandora's Box

Everyone should take a hard look at the path we are on given the Supreme Court's recent DOMA ruling.  The slippery slope same sex marriage puts us on is fraught with danger as this note illustrates.  We all need to take a stand against further damage to our culture that the secular humanist/progressives are aggressively forcing upon us.  Their amoral ideology is clearly destroying morality as we know it.  Please help fight for the preservation of the family - which sits at the very core of all societies.  The expanding homosexual lobby must be fought tooth and nail by all who believe in families consisting of moms and dads.  Those who choose another lifestyle have a right to do so but they do not have a right to destroy what has been the central feature in all societies throughout all recorded history.  George Burns

Right now there are laws (varying by state) against incest and marrying your sibling, first cousin, offspring, or parent.  There are also laws against marrying a minor and laws against polygamy.

Based on the Supreme Court’s ruling on the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), which defined marriage as a union between one man and one woman, regulations against abhorrent behavior other than same-sex relations are now also at risk.

The Justices ruled that when it comes to the benefits of marriage, a class of people cannot be discriminated against. The popularized expression of the ruling is that one should be able to marry who one loves and get the full benefits enjoyed by those united in natural marriage.

So, why stop at homosexual “marriage?”

I am told that proponents of polygamy are celebrating the recent Supreme Court ruling right alongside their pro-homosexual allies.

Although the Justices came short of redefining marriage, legal challenges against laws on the books regulating marriage are going to flood courts across the nation in the days ahead.

++Individual states are the next targets.

Vice President Joe Biden said last week, “We're on the verge of seeing America move even further” on same-sex marriages.

The Los Angeles Times reported that, “The Human Rights Campaign vows to make gay marriage legal in all 50 states within five years… For now, the immediate game plan is to roll out campaigns in Illinois, New Jersey, Nevada, Oregon, and Hawaii in the coming months to try to increase the number of states where gay marriage is legal.”

++Churches and pastors will be in the activists’ crosshairs.

Unless the tide is turned, soon any organization or individual speaking out against homosexuality will be charged with uttering “hate speech.” It’s not outside the realm of possibility that churches could be fined or closed for discriminatory practices by refusing to perform same-sex “marriages.”

Consider this trend:  Before President Obama took office, “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” was a military standard.  Now, not only are practicing homosexuals allowed to serve, there are special protections in place for that class of people.

Military chapels are now open to homosexual marriage ceremonies and chaplains have faced the possibility of reprimand, prosecution, and dishonorable discharge if they refuse to perform ceremonies that are counter to their religious convictions.

American Civil Liberties Union Executive Director Anthony Romero said on Politico, “It’s going to open the floodgates for litigation applying equal protection standards to laws discriminating against LGBT people.” Those lawsuits will include churches and religious-based institutions.

The High Court stopped short this time of declaring that individual states must recognize homosexual marriages performed in the 13 states where it’s legal.  I believe that the next case regarding homosexual “rights” to come to the Supreme Court will quite possibly bring about that ruling.

++The Supreme Court’s loss of credibility.

In the first of several special reports on the recent High Court rulings on same-sex “marriage” in Liberty Counsel’s “Faith and Freedom” program, I discuss with Matt Barber, Vice President of Liberty Counsel Action, how the Supreme Court has undermined its own authority with these misguided decisions.

When you play this video, you’ll hear how the Court has, in effect, called all people who believe in natural marriage “biased and prejudicial.”
